19 June 2018, New Delhi: Approx 450 Athletes, Coaches and Resource persons from 27 states of India will be participating in the second preparatory Camp for the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2019 . The 2nd Preparatory Camp will be held from 19-24 June 2018 within the Campus of BITS Pilani (Birla Institute Technology & Science)
Training sessions will be conducted across 15 sports that India will be participating in at the games in Abu Dhabi in March 2019. All Sessions will be held from 6AM – 8:30 AM and from 4:30-7:00PM everyday concluding each day with a Coaches Meeting. A team of sport specific selectors will be present at the venue.
Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton, Basketball, Cycling,Handball, Judo, Roller Skating, Table Tennis, Volley Ball, Power lifting, Unified football (7 –a-side Male &Female; 11-a-side Male) , Futsal (Female)
Alongside Sports practises, all the Athletes will be screened across two medical disciplines- Fitfeet and Special Smiles. The Special Smiles discipline of Healthy Athletes provides comprehensive oral health care information, including offering free dental screenings and instructions on correct brushing and flossing techniques to participating Special Olympics athletes. Special Olympics Fit Feet offers podiatric screenings to evaluate ankles, feet, lower extremity biomechanics, and proper shoe and sock gear to participating athletes. Fit Feet helps Special Olympics athletes step lively on the playing field, and in everyday life.
While Fitfeet will have 8 Physiotherapists and 10 Non clinical Volunteers conducting the screenings, 9 dentists and 9 Non clinical volunteers will conduct dental screenings at the camp.
About the Special Olympics World Summer Games Abu Dhabi 2019
Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates will host the 2019 Special Olympics World Summer Games to be held from14-21 March 2019. Abu Dhabi is the first place in the Middle East-North Africa Region to be host to the Special Olympics World Games. The event is estimated to witness participation of 7000 Athletes from 170 nations featuring 24 Olympic-type sports conducted across 7 days. SO Bharat will be participating in 16/17 out of 24 Sports featuring the Games.
