Educators/ Administrators/ Entrepreneurs from all across the world; converged as one unit to understand the process and the evolving paradigm behind the success and challenges of the Green School endeavour of John Hardy.The third batch of the outgoing students esconed in some of the best universities of the world on the strength of the projects and Tedx Talks of students, made them realize that world needs thinkers, planners and doers who will be the role models for others.
It is not that most of us do not recognise the perils faced by the mother earth, but the ‘ Bystander Effect” has numbed us to the plight and misery of others including our ailing planet.
Green School founded in the year 2008 by John and Cynthia Hardy and has evolved with time. From a school offering a structured international curriculum, it realised the strength of planned wall-less-ness and mindfulness on the growth of the students, educators and multitude of visitors.
The pedagogy used in the Green School is based on Compass Model and three frames of learning:
- The Thematic Frame based on an interdisciplinary approach.
- The Proficiency Frame focuses mainly on Literary and Numeracy competencies.
- The Experiential Frame that is based on Project Based Learning having segments of Green Lessons, Physical Fitness, Art, Community Work/ Service Learning, combined with entrepreneurial learning.

- Local Language and Culture are important tools to act and live locally.

High Schooler – “learn how to learn”! There is an underlying thread that joins the curriculum for SUSTAINABILITY , i.e. ‘Green School Skills’ preparing them as lifelong passionate friends of environment.
Greenstone Project in Grade 12 gives them the opportunity to demonstrate mastery of research and presentation skills. We were witness to a few Ted Talks of 13-minutes duration.
We met students, who had chosen to be engaged in the Bio Bus Project running three bases of the campus on Bio diesel made from used Pine Oil, Kul Kul Connection Activities for teaching English to 250 students from local community, engaging them in vocational skills and permaculture.
The group interacted with the lead architects at IBUKU for the challenges and strengths of using Bamboo for creating the structures and wall less spaces.
Leslie Medema – the Head Teacher, Glenn Chickering, Sanne Van Oort Course and Teacher Development Manager, Noan Fesnoux Project Coordinator for High School, Kyle King and other faculty members added to the value of the course.
School is an example of Effective Waste Management. We were awed by the scale of work undertaken for it.

36 Local Scholars and 250 Kul kul Connection beneficiary from the local community are financed through the funds generated by day tours in Green School.
