Pranab Mukherjee says that higher Education in India still facing many challenges

In the 29th Convocation of Kalyani University, West Bengal, ex-President Pranab Mukherjee stated that higher education in India still faces many challenges in spite of several measures. The University conferred the Honorary D Litt to Mukherjee. “Challenges faced in the spread of higher education remains many and diverse in the country,” added the ex-president. Regarding the topic of autonomy in educational institutions, he stated: “Integration and coordination between UG and PG institutions require further attention.”

It was made clear at the meet that Kalyani university is working in accordance with the choice-based-credit-system (CBCS) laid by the UGC. Opining on technological impact, he added, “India has made rapid strides in technological development in past decades.”

West Bengal Governor and Chancellor of the university K N Tripathi noted “Students should motivate themselves to work for the needs of society apart from academic studies.” the Honoury D Sc was given to IIT Kharagpur’s Director Partha Pratim Chakrabarty.
