Promise of investing Rs 1 lakh crore for improving Education

PM Narendra Modi promised to invest INR 1 lakh crore by 2022 towards the improvement of the quality and infrastructure of education. He stressed the fact that education in India should not only be seen for literacy and fetching jobs but also to build individual character.

In a conference on Academic Leadership on Education for Resurgence, he stated, “I insist that students should not just be restricted to classrooms, but they should also be a part of aspirations of the country.” The conference was organized by University Grants Commission, All India Council for Technical Education, Indian Council of Social Science Research, Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Indira Gandhi National Open University, Jawaharlal Nehru University and Shree Guru Govind Singh Tricentenary University.

He also added in his mellifluous speech that “Ambedkar, Deen Dayal Upadhyaya and Ram Manohar Lohia always emphasized on character-building over literacy. Swami Vivekananda stressed on wholesome education that makes us human.”

He mentioned about Atal Tinkering Laboratories that has been initiated by the present Government to inculcate a culture of innovation among them.
