In light of the heavy rain alert issued for Thane and Palghar districts by the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), schools and colleges have been declared to remain closed for the next two days. According to the forecast, “heavy to very heavy’ rainfall is expected in several parts of the state in the next 48 hours. Flooding and disruption will be a common scenario in these areas.
Looking at the welfare of children, schools are to remain closed for the next two days. The announcement was made by the district collectors. Red alert has been issued in Palghar where Govind Bodke announced closure of schools on Friday and Saturday. The Maharashtra Disaster Management Minister, Anil Patil, announced that rescue mission was underway. 98 out of 178 people have been so far rescued from the severe rains. Raigad and Pune are also under red alert. Orange alert has been issued for Mumbai and Ratnagiri.
