2,050 schools in Himachal Pradesh will be given a facelift in the coming years. This was announced by Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on November 17, 2023, during a review meeting of the Education Department. The schools will be upgraded to ‘Chief Minister Schools of Excellence’ in a phased manner by 2026-27. The facelift will include improvements to the infrastructure, classrooms, libraries, and laboratories. The government will also provide additional teachers and training for the schools.
The Chief Minister said that the initiative is aimed at providing quality education to students from all walks of life. He added that the government is committed to providing the best possible education to the state’s youth. The Education Department has been asked to prepare a detailed proposal for the schools’ facelift. The proposal will include the cost of the project and a timeline for its completion.
The government has also decided to start a guest lecturer scheme in the schools. Under the scheme, eminent personalities from various fields will be invited to deliver lectures to the students. The guest lecturers will share their knowledge and experiences with the students and inspire them to achieve their goals.
The government has also instructed the Education Department to ensure that the students have 220 teaching days in an academic session. The department has been asked to prepare a calendar for the academic session and ensure that all the activities are completed within the stipulated time frame.
The government has also decided to make compulsory training for teachers a mandatory requirement. All new teachers will be required to undergo a compulsory training program before they start teaching. The training program will focus on the latest teaching methods and technologies.
