21 years later, India shines at International Physics Olympiad

At the 49th International Physics Olympiad (IPhO 2018), 5 students of India won gold medals outshining around 390 students. This Olympiad was held in Lisbon, Portugal where students from 86 countries participated. Lay Jain and Pawan Goyal of Kota, Bhaskar Gupta of Mumbai, Nishant Abhangi of Rajkot and Siddharth Tiwary of Kolkata were the gold medal achievers at IPhO 2018.

Consisting of a theoretical and an experimental examination of 5- hour each, IPhO was held from 21st to 28th July where India and China won the medals tally with 5 gold medals each. Questions based on LIGO detection of gravitational waves, the ATLAS instrument at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) and the physics of blood flow in living tissues and growth of tumours were included n the theoretical examination, this year, shares an official of HBCSE (Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education)
