The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) mandated the installation of CCTVs in exam halls on September 27th. As per the policy, the recordings of the examination are to be maintained and stored for two months from the date of declaration of the results of classes 10 and 12.
It was mentioned while addressing a notification to the principals, heads of institutions of all affiliated schools that the board examinations of classes 10 and 12 will only be conducted in a room with CCTV facility. It was also mentioned that in case a school lacks fixed cameras, they will not be considered a part of the examination venue for the students. The policy will be implemented in 2025 examination.
CBSE has asserted that around 44 lakh students will appear for class 10 and 12 examinations this year.
To ensure a smooth and fair conduction of exam at such a large scale, The Board has developed a CCTV policy thereby asking to install high-resolution cameras in educational institutions to monitor students’ actions and examination materials visibly and with ease.
As per the policy, the recordings of the examination hall must be reserved for at least two months from the date of declaration of results of classes 10 and 12. To ensure that the recordings can be retrieved with ease in case the board has to review them. The footage of the cameras can only be accessed by authorities. CBSE has ordered that the schools should ensure cameras have dynamic monitoring of specific areas or students with options of pan, tilt, and zoom. It is also important for schools to remember that the cost will not be incurred by the Board.
Parents and students will be apprised of the purpose of the decision and their rights during the examination. Schools are advised to provide information through various modes such as orientation sessions, handbooks, and notice boards. It has also been advised to take necessary feedback from students, staff, and examination officials to identify improvements and make necessary adjustments. Feedback to be taken from students
In each examination centre, one person for 10 rooms or 240 students will be made responsible to keep an eye on the students to ensure fair conduct of the examinations.
