Collaborating with Meynikara, an augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) startup based in Chennai, 5 schools now have VR Labs where students can have an immersive learning experience. Dubbed ‘Meta Kalvi’, the VR labs were launched in two corporation schools and three government schools in the virtual presence of Thiru M. K. Stalin and Dr. Kalaighar M. Karunidhi, the current and former Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu respectively.
By providing the schools with a VR Lab, what Meynikara has initiated is nothing short of a techno-educational revolution. “We will provide VR devices such as head-mounted stereo television goggles and stereo headphones among others. We will visualise six complex topics, each in maths and science. Visualising the concepts will give better learning experience and help in memory retention,” said Raghuraman Ravi, co-founder and CEO of Meynikara.
The VR Labs may be used for teaching key topics in mathematics and science for classes 6 to 9. Teachers are also going to receive training on how to operate the VR Labs to teach. This training is supposed to be at least two months long. After the first five schools, Meta Kalvi will also be available to other schools in a phased manner.
