Nine earthquakes with an average magnitude of 4.9 hit Andaman and Nicobar islands on Monday, which is unusual for islands. The first one that hit the islands at 5.14 a.m. had a magnitude of 4.9 which was followed by another with a magnitude of 5 on the Richter scale.
With a magnitude ranging from 4.7 to 5.2, nine medium intensity earthquakes hit islands. Everything occurred within a span of two hours, stated the National Centre for Seismology. The last jolt was recorded at 6.54 AM that had a magnitude of 5.2. The Andaman and the Nicobar islands are prone to earthquakes but it unusual for the islands to witness more than 2-3 earthquakes a day.
