Ramanujan is one of India’s greatest mathematical geniuses. He was always ahead of the formal education of his time. His passion for numbers took him ahead of everyone else of his age in a completely different direction. A pioneering mathematician who revolutionized the field of mathematics by proving over 3,000 theorems. He was the second Indian to be elected a fellow of the Royal Society.
1729 – A Hardy-Ramanujan number, introduced during a conversation with Hardy, Ramanujan said it is the smallest number expressible as a sum of two cubes in two ways, 13 + 123 and 93 + 103. In 2012, at Madras University, former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh declared 22nd December as National Mathematics Day, to pay tribute to and commemorate his birthday. On this day, schools, universities, and colleges in India host events, Olympiads.. etc. related to maths. NASI conducts workshops to celebrate the day.
His contributions to the field of mathematics were unmatchable. Worldwide experts in mathematics recognized his tremendous worth. Most noteworthy, Srinivasa Ramanujan made India proud at a time when India was under British occupation.
