A Landmark Event celebrating Inclusivity and Sporting Excellence hosted by Bal Bhavan Public School in collaboration with CBSE and Special Olympic Bharat

On 23rd and 24th February 2025, Bal Bhavan Public School, Mayur Vihar Phase-2, proudly hosted the inaugural CBSE Special Games for Children with Special Needs (CWSN) in collaboration with Special Olympics Bharat. This pioneering event, organized by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), provided a remarkable platform for young athletes to showcase their skills, determination, and spirit.

The event was graced by esteemed dignitaries, including Sh. Himanshu Gupta, IAS, Secretary CBSE, as the Chief Guest, and Dr. Upasana Arora, President of Special Olympics Bharat & Managing Director of Yashoda Super Speciality Hospital, as the Guest of Honour. Other distinguished guests included Mr. Manjit Singh (Director, Sports CBSE), Ms. Ekta Jha (Director Sports, Special Olympics Bharat), Dr. Sanjay Chauhan (CBSE Observer & Principal, GD Goenka School, Indirapuram), Dr. Jyoti Arora (Member, CBSE Governing Body & Principal, Mount Abu School), Mr. Vikram Singh Rawat (Area Director, Special Olympics Bharat, Delhi), and Dr. Gauri Chakraborty (Professor, Indira Gandhi Institute of Physical Education and Sports).

The school’s leadership, including Shri BB Gupta (Director), Mr. Vividh Gupta (Principal), Shri GS Grover (Chairman), Smt. Rachna Gupta, Sh. Ramesh Kandpal, Smt. Rinnie Srivastava, and Mrs. Kavita Mehrotra (Manager), extended a warm welcome to all dignitaries and participants, reinforcing the importance of inclusive sporting initiatives.

Day 1 commenced with a serene Lamp Lighting Ceremony, setting the tone for an inspiring journey ahead. The event unfolded with a dignified March Past, Torch Run, Oath Taking Ceremony, and Flag Hoisting, symbolizing unity and perseverance. The audience was captivated by a soulful performance by the school orchestra, followed by a Yoga Demonstration that highlighted mindfulness and discipline. The day witnessed enthusiastic participation from 76 schools, with approximately 134 students competing in various categories, including 25m Walk, 50m Flat Run, 4x100m Relay, Tennis Ball Throw, Softball Throw, and Standing Long Jump.

The excitement carried over to Day 2, which began with the final track events reflecting the discipline and team spirit of the participating schools. The competitions were meticulously categorized based on ability levels. The Prize Distribution Ceremony was a moment of celebration, with winners being honored with medals and certificates in recognition of their stellar performances. The event concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks, and the Declaration of Meet Close by the school’s Principal Mr. Vividh Gupta who also lauded the efforts of the team behind the successful completion of this grand event by honoring all of them with an appreciation certificate from the school.

The CBSE Special Games for CWSN at Bal Bhavan Public School marked a transformative milestone in promoting equal opportunities in sports. This extraordinary two-day event left an indelible impact, inspiring athletes, educators, and spectators alike to champion the cause of inclusive sports and celebrate the unlimited potential of every child.

On this momentous occasion, Dr. Mallika Nadda, the President of Special Olympics Bharat, conveyed a heartfelt message: “Special Olympics Bharat proudly joins hands with CBSE for the CBSE Special Games for Children with Special Needs (CWSN), marking a significant step towards building an inclusive sporting ecosystem. This initiative reflects our shared commitment to reaching every child with special needs, ensuring they experience the power and joy of sports.
