Starting May 8, students in Delhi from Grades 6 to 10 will be introduced to the fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence through a new curriculum titled AI Samarth. The initiative, developed by the Central Square Foundation (CSF) in collaboration with the Wadhwani School of Data Science and AI at IIT Madras, aims to build AI literacy among school children aged 11 to 14.
The AI Samarth curriculum is designed to demystify AI concepts, explain how AI systems function, and explore their applications in everyday life. Importantly, it will also teach students about the ethical, safe, and responsible use of AI technologies.
Multilingual and Inclusive Approach
The curriculum will be made available in five languages at launch—Hindi, English, Marathi, Bengali, and Odia—with additional languages expected to follow. It will be hosted online as open-source content, enabling schools to adopt or adapt it based on their specific needs and local contexts.
Designed for Both Students and Teachers
AI Samarth isn’t just for students—the framework includes training modules for teachers to help them effectively guide AI learning in classrooms. The rollout is expected to be completed within the next six months, offering schools a ready-to-use yet flexible educational resource.
Focus on Ethics and Real-World Relevance
The curriculum addresses key topics such as:
- Ethics and bias in AI
- Privacy and data protection
- Responsible usage of AI tools
- Practical, real-life applications of AI
By making these concepts accessible to younger students, the program hopes to foster a generation that is not only AI-aware but also AI-responsible.
A Step Toward Future-Ready Education
With AI transforming industries and everyday life, the creators of AI Samarth emphasize that early exposure is essential. The curriculum marks a step toward equipping both students and educators with the tools and knowledge needed to navigate and thrive in an increasingly AI-driven world.
