The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights of Kerala has recommended to the state government that co-education system should be followed throughout the state. The commission said that boys-only and girls-only systems should be stopped. The state government has accepted the recommendation. The adoption of recommendations will reflect on around 444 schools in the state. Commission for Protection of Child Rights has instructed that system should be adopted from the next year i.e, 2023 onwards.
The commission has also recommended the Principal Secretary, directors of the Public Education and the State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT) to prepare an action plan in this regard. The decision has been taken after a plea was filed by an individual.
“We issued an order asking all schools to become co-ed. We received a complaint in this regard. The aim is to protect our constitutional right to equality. Gender equality is important, and should begin at the school level,” said Manoj Kumar, Chairman of the state Child Rights Commission.
