All schools affiliated to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations (CISCE), and UP board in the Meerut district of Uttar Pradesh (UP) are to be closed till the 27th of July, 2022, on account of Kanwar Yatra. The orders to close the school were issued by the District Magistrate (DM) in correspondence with Rajesh Kumar, the District Inspector of Schools (DIOS), and Yogendra Kumar, the Basic Shiksha Adhikari (BSA). This decision can be viewed as a precautionary measure to avoid potential problems that children who use the Yatra route may face.

Kanwar Yatra is a religious pilgrimage that is undertaken annually by the devotees of Lord Shiva. Due to the recent pandemic, the number of devotees is expected to be higher than usual. Hence, the precautionary measure to close the schools. The Yatra began on the 14th of July, 2022, and will continue till the 26th of July, 2022.
