The Allahabad High Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh government to upgrade educational, medical, and developmental facilities for children with disabilities across all districts. The directive came during the hearing of a plea by a teacher from Etah, who requested a transfer to Noida or Ghaziabad, citing the lack of advanced resources for her autistic son.
Justice Ajay Bhanot observed that the infrastructure in Etah was insufficient to meet the needs of children with autism, underlining the stark inequities in access to essential services across the state. The court stressed the importance of ensuring equitable development opportunities for all children with disabilities.
While the counsel for the Basik Shiksha Adhikari informed the court about the high volume of transfer requests to Noida and Ghaziabad on medical grounds, the court advised that such appeals should be processed in accordance with established regulations and at an appropriate time, such as after the academic session.
The case was disposed of with a strong emphasis on the urgent need to develop robust support systems for disabled children in Uttar Pradesh.
