Application Open for Teach for India Fellowship

Teach for India is two year fellowship that places their fellows in schools in underprivileged communities, to eliminate educational inequality. The mission of the organization is to provide education for all. Teach for India is “Teach to Lead” project governed by a board of trustees. Teach for India is a part of the “Teach for All Network”, a growing group of independent organisations working on expanding educational opportunities in their nations. The 60 countries in the network today share a common vision of an excellent education for all children. Teach for India was founded in 2008 and as of today they are teaching 34,000 children through 1000 fellows and 4000 plus alumni who together reach 50 million children across India.  As of today Teach for India operates in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru and Kolkata.

Teach for India has announced the accepting of applications for the fellowship and the last date for accepting applications is March 19. Candidates applying for the fellowship must be citizens of India or an overseas citizen of India, having a bachelor’s degree by June or July 2023 and must be fluent in English. Prior teaching experience for the fellows is not mandatory and they will be adequately trained by the organization. Teach for India fellows work as full time teachers and are paid salary of Rs 23,043 per month. Housing allowance is paid to candidates who relocate from their home town for the fellowship.

The application process comprises of three stages – submission of the application form and online test, a phone interview and an assessment centre. The candidates have to showcase their past experiences and their motivation to join the fellowship. The second stage consists of a 30 minute phone interview where they will be asked questions based on their application form. In the last stage of the process, the candidates will get to know more about the fellowship and the programme, as well as they get to showcase their competencies. This round will also consist of sample teaching and group activities.

Teach for India identifies committed people for their two-year fellowship and places them in government schools for teaching students. The organization supports them as they find careers within and beyond the education sector. Post Fellowship, the Fellows are given lifelong access to their Alumni community that is a close-knit supportive community working towards educational equity. Teach India alumni work with schools and communities, join or start organisations to support education and work within government. They work in careers in research, law, media, government and business and find ways to continue to advocate for educational equity.
