The Assam State School Education Board (ASSEB) has cancelled all Class 11 examinations scheduled from March 24 to 29 following multiple reports of question paper leaks. A total of 36 subjects have been affected by this decision, announced by Education Minister Ranoj Pegu.
The controversy initially emerged with the leak of the Mathematics paper, originally set for March 21. Authorities promptly cancelled the exam and lodged a police complaint. The Class 11 board exams, which commenced on March 6, were supposed to conclude on March 29.
The education minister confirmed that breaches in protocol led to the cancellation of the remaining exams. A revised schedule will be determined in an upcoming ASSEB board meeting. Investigations revealed that 18 schools, including three government institutions, had broken the security seal on question papers before the scheduled date. Consequently, 15 private schools across 10 districts have had their affiliations suspended. Additionally, three government schools face disciplinary action.
Legal proceedings have been initiated, and the accused institutions are prohibited from admitting Class 11 students for the 2025–26 academic session. An FIR has been filed at the CID Headquarters in Guwahati, with further cases to follow at respective police stations.
This incident follows a similar breach last week in Assam’s Barpeta district, where the Class 9 English exam was cancelled due to a question paper leak on social media.
