Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu  declared that full marks will be offered to students in case the accusations of out-of-syllabus questions in the Assam Board HSLC Mathematics paper are proven true. Pegu made this statement in acknowledgment of students’ complaints about encountering questions beyond the prescribed syllabus, which could potentially result in them losing essential marks in the exam.

Students from different regions of Assam expressed concerns about encountering out-of-syllabus questions in the HSLC Mathematics paper examination.

Certain individuals asserted that they could potentially lose up to 25 marks because of the unforeseen questions, causing widespread concern among the examinees.

Addressing the allegations, Pegu announced and guaranteed that if all the assertions are proven true, all impacted students will receive full marks for the out-of-syllabus questions.

He highlighted the significance of fairness in evaluations and pledged to promptly resolve the matter.

Additionally, he revealed the initiation of a departmental investigation to thoroughly examine the allegations and stated that the final decision on awarding full marks would be contingent on the investigation’s findings. The controversy over the Assam Board HSLC Mathematics paper is not the initial occurrence of examination irregularities in Assam during the Class 10 board exams, commonly known as the High School Leaving Certificate (HSLC) exams conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Assam (SEBA).

Previously, there was a reported case of a question paper leak in the Cachar district during the ‘General English’ subject examination.

Contrary to the initial reports, Pegu dismissed the allegations as false and pledged a comprehensive investigation into the matter. While students await the results of the investigation, Pegu’s assurance brings some hope for those impacted by the purported out-of-syllabus questions.
