Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a major plan to upgrade 500 government schools with modern facilities. The redevelopment work has already started in several schools across the state. He highlighted that this initiative will transform school education in Assam.
CM Sarma launched the project at Palashbari High School in Guwahati, where he inaugurated the redevelopment of the school with advanced learning facilities.
“The state government is investing ₹5 to ₹7 crore per school to upgrade them with state-of-the-art infrastructure. This will revitalise government schools and significantly improve the education sector,” he said.
He also stressed on the ongoing construction of 23 medical colleges in the state. Additionally, work on three more colleges in Darang, Hojai, and Hailakandi will begin within a year.
CM Sarma further mentioned that almost every district now has a university under development. “We are setting up universities in Hojai, Nagaon, Cachar, Bajali, and Lakhimpur. Soon, every district will have one,” he added.
The government is also focused on improving connectivity by building bridges across the Brahmaputra River in every district. “Along with universities and medical colleges, we are constructing bridges. Assam is progressing rapidly and will soon be among the developed states in the country,” he said.
