Hyderabad, 26 September 2023: Stage X students of CHIREC International School came together to build a holistic and inclusive community through their project ‘Sign-Verse’. Led by Nidhi, Manya, Nivedya, and Varun, this project aims to build awareness around the Indian Sign Language. As a part of their Global Perspective curriculum, the students taught their juniors Indian Sign Language. They brought their initiative a level up by hosting students from Balvikas Educational Society for Disabled Children.
In this session, they interacted with students of Balvikas Educational Society through Indian Sign Language. After the initial meet and greet, they proceeded to play interactive games with them like charades, origami, throwball, and cricket. This interaction was greatly enjoyed by the students of both institutions alike. The efforts of the students was lauded by the Principal of CHIREC International School, Ms. Sanchita Raha, she said “In our journey towards creating an inclusive school environment, let us remember that embracing sign language is not just about breaking barriers; it’s about building bridges of understanding and empathy. It’s a commitment to ensuring that every student, regardless of their abilities or challenges, has a voice and a place in our educational community”
Manya, who led the project said, “We the students of Stage X wanted to address the issue of language and communication barrier when it comes to interacting with Sign Language community. In order to bring a significant impact to the society around us, we came up with the idea of Sign-Verse. We aim to build more awareness around Indian Sign Language and conduct more such events through this initiative.”
