Addressing the growing issue of the weight of students’ school bags increasing exponentially with increasing academic load, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has announced that it will share guidelines for the weight of school bags that children have to carry regularly. Giving rise to spinal issues, heavy school bags are unhealthy for young students from both a physical and psychological standpoint.
The Director of BIS has shared that research will be conducted on the weight of school bags, and will release a set of standards following the same. He also added that Human Resource Development has already shared a set of guidelines on the same.
The Bureau of Indian Standards is a government organisation that develops standards ensuring the quality and appropriate use of a wide range of goods, products, and processes in India.
