CBSE Board Exams 2026: Class 12 Geography Paper Rated Easy to Moderate, NCERT-Centric

by admin

The Class 12 Geography examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on February 26, 2026, concluded smoothly across centres nationwide, with students and teachers largely describing the paper as easy to moderate, well-structured, and closely aligned with the NCERT syllabus.

The exam was held in a single morning shift from 10:30 am to 1:30 pm, with students given a mandatory 15-minute reading time before commencement. Entry to examination centres closed at 10:00 am, in line with CBSE guidelines.

Overall Paper Review: Balanced and Student-Friendly

Early reactions suggest that the question paper focused strongly on conceptual clarity rather than rote learning. Most questions were directly sourced from the prescribed syllabus, enabling well-prepared students to attempt the paper with confidence.

Students reported a balanced mix of short-answer, long-answer, source-based, and map-based questions, with sufficient internal choices in longer sections. The paper was widely considered manageable within the allotted time.

What Students and Teachers Said

A Class XII student from Witty International School, Udaipur, described the paper as “clearly framed, fair, and NCERT-aligned.” According to the student, the map work section was particularly scoring, while the overall difficulty level ranged from easy to moderate.

Echoing this view, a senior Geography teacher from the same school noted that the paper maintained a healthy balance between theoretical concepts and practical application. Questions were clearly worded, free from ambiguity, and followed the expected examination pattern.

Similarly, a school principal from Delhi’s Shalimar Bagh region said the paper was well-structured and in line with the CBSE sample paper. While multiple-choice questions required careful analysis and source-based questions demanded close reading, both were considered approachable. Adequate internal choices in long-answer questions allowed students to plan their responses strategically.

Key Highlights of the Question Paper

  • Difficulty level: Easy to moderate
  • Syllabus coverage: Strictly NCERT-based
  • MCQs: Concept-driven, requiring analytical thinking
  • Source-based questions: Reading comprehension and interpretation focused
  • Map work: Familiar and predictable topics, high scoring potential
  • Time management: Comfortable for most students

Passing Criteria and Exam Pattern

To pass the CBSE Board Exams 2026, students must secure at least 33% marks in each subject, including theory, practicals, and internal assessments. For Geography, the total marks are 100, divided into 70 marks for theory and 30 marks for practicals and project work.

Students must qualify separately in both theory and practical components.

CBSE Advisory During Exams

Earlier in the day, CBSE issued a cautionary advisory urging students and parents to ignore rumours and fake claims of question paper leaks circulating on social media. The Board reiterated that strict measures are in place to ensure the secure and fair conduct of examinations and warned that misinformation could cause unnecessary anxiety.

What’s Next

Detailed paper analysis and answer discussions are expected to be available after the conclusion of the exam. Meanwhile, Class 12 board examinations will continue until April 10, while Class 10 exams are scheduled to conclude on March 10.

Overall, the Class 12 Geography paper appears to have met CBSE’s stated objective of testing understanding, application, and conceptual clarity, offering relief to students amid the ongoing board examination season.
