The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has successfully concluded the Class 10 board exams, which were held from February 15 to March 18, while the Class 12 exams will conclude on April 4. This year, approximately 42 lakh students appeared for the CBSE board exams.
In 2024, 24.12 lakh students took the Class 10 exams across 84 subjects, while 17.88 lakh students registered for the Class 12 exams in 120 subjects. As students eagerly await the CBSE Class 10 and 12 results, we have analyzed the pass percentages from the last five years to identify trends.

Pass Percentage Trends

The highest pass percentages were recorded in 2021 due to pandemic-related assessment policies (99.04% for Class 10 and 99.37% for Class 12).

Post-pandemic, the pass percentage for Class 10 has remained stable (94.40% in 2022 to 93.60% in 2024).

Class 12 results have fluctuated more noticeably, dropping from 92.71% in 2022 to 87.33% in 2023, before recovering slightly to 87.98% in 2024.
CBSE Passing Criteria and Grace Marks Policy
To pass the CBSE exams, students must secure at least 33% marks in each subject. If a student falls short by one mark or less, CBSE may award grace marks to ensure they qualify.
CBSE Mathematics Evaluation Process
For subjects like Mathematics, CBSE follows a stepwise marking system. Key solution steps, known as value points, are assigned marks. Even if a student arrives at the correct final answer, missing essential steps can lead to mark deductions.
CBSE Curriculum Expansion in Maharashtra
Meanwhile, Maharashtra’s Education Minister, Dada Bhuse, announced that the CBSE curriculum will be implemented in all state schools up to Class 12 by 2028. The transition will begin with Class 1 in 2025 and extend to all grades by 2028.
