The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has instructed schools to conduct comprehensive assessments during practical exams. This decision stems from the board’s discovery of significant discrepancies in the marks of 50 per cent of students across 500 schools, affecting both theoretical and practical subjects. Consequently, the board has urged schools to reassess their internal evaluation procedures. This measure aims to ensure a more robust, transparent, and reliable evaluation process.

According to CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has identified a significant difference between theory and practical marks in certain subjects among 50 per cent or more students in about 500 CBSE-affiliated schools, using advanced AI tools and past years’ result statistics. This finding underscores the necessity for thorough assessment during practical examinations in schools, prompting the Board to advise these schools to revisit their internal assessment procedures. The advisory serves as a reinforcement of the importance of fairness and accuracy in evaluating practical examinations, ultimately contributing to the improvement of the quality of education delivered in CBSE-affiliated institutions.
