In a significant step toward enhancing student well-being, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that all affiliated schools will be required to begin their morning assemblies with positive affirmations starting from the academic year 2025–26.
The initiative aims to foster emotional resilience and a positive mindset among students as part of CBSE’s broader objective to promote holistic education. By incorporating daily affirmations, the board hopes to support not only students’ academic growth but also their mental and emotional development.
“Regular practice of affirmations has been shown to improve focus, confidence, and mental well-being. Our aim is to help students begin their day with clarity and calmness,” CBSE stated in its official advisory.
Affirmations to Be Age-Appropriate and Bilingual
Schools are encouraged to introduce one or two simple affirmations each morning, focusing on values such as self-respect, emotional regulation, and healthy habits. The affirmations will be tailored to different age groups and delivered in both English and Hindi to ensure accessibility and inclusivity.
Sample affirmations suggested by the board include:
- “I am always happy.”
- “I am calm and stable in every situation.”
- “I respect everyone. I respect nature.”
- “I use gadgets only for studying.”
Flexible Implementation and Student Involvement Encouraged
CBSE has granted schools the flexibility to adapt the affirmation format to their existing assembly routines. Institutions are also encouraged to involve students in creating or leading the daily affirmations to enhance engagement and ownership.
This new practice aligns with the board’s commitment to nurturing emotionally intelligent, socially responsible learners. By starting the day on a positive note, the board hopes to cultivate a supportive school atmosphere that empowers students to manage stress, build self-confidence, and develop life skills early on.
