Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) introduces skill education for class 6th to 8th. With this introduction, students from class 6th onwards will be taught subjects such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Augmented Reality (AR), financial literacy and others. CBSE has listed 33 subjects and schools are allowed to opt for any of these subjects. Until now, the skill subjects were included in the curriculum after class 9th.

CBSE has notified the schools to include skill education subjects in the 2023-24 academic year curriculum. CBSE directed all affiliated schools to select a few skill modules which can be conveniently offered from the 2023-24 academic year with exiting manpower in the schools and also suit the demands of the students.

The skill modules require 12-15 hour of training. Out of this 70% of the time is to be devoted to hand-on training and 30% time for theory. Schools can use the “Bagless Day”, vacation time, summer camps or activity classes to teach these skill modules. Schools are not required to pay any fee to CBSE for introducing these modules in their schools. Scholl will be doing the assessment for these skill modules as per the guidelines and modalities to be provided by CBSE shortly.

CBSE schools that are introducing skill subjects are required to inform about the same to the board via the CBSE academic website. The study material for all the skill modules offered by CBSE is available on the CBSE official website.
