CBSE Issues Guidelines for Electoral Literacy Clubs and Democracy Rooms in Schools

by Subeditor1

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has released comprehensive guidelines for establishing Electoral Literacy Clubs (ELCs) and Democracy Rooms in schools across India. These initiatives are designed to promote democratic engagement, critical thinking, and active citizenship among students, aiming to prepare the next generation for responsible leadership.

According to the guidelines, schools are encouraged to form Electoral Literacy Clubs at all levels—primary, secondary, and higher secondary. These clubs would focus on educating students about electoral rights, democratic principles, and civic responsibilities through engaging activities. Schools are also encouraged to partner with local electoral authorities to maximize the impact of these initiatives. Key activities of these clubs would include electoral literacy workshops, mock elections, debates, and voter registration drives. Schools can also set up Democracy Rooms, where students can engage in hands-on learning experiences related to democracy and governance.

Registration and guidelines are available on CBSE’s academic portal, and participation in these clubs is open to all students. The official circular issued in this regard can be accessed HERE.
