To mark Mahatma Gandhi’s birth anniversary on October 2, 2024, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced the launch of the ‘Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) Campaign 2024’ in all affiliated schools from September 14 to October 2. This campaign aligns with the nationwide observance of ‘Swachh Bharat Diwas’ and is a joint effort by the Ministry of Jal Shakti and the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs. This campaign aims to raise awareness about cleanliness and hygiene while inspiring future generations to build a cleaner, healthier India.
The theme for this year’s campaign, “Swabhav Swachhata – Sanskaar Swachhata,” emphasizes clearing public spaces of garbage, acknowledging the efforts of sanitation workers, and reinforcing the country’s commitment to ‘Sampoorna Swachhata’ (complete cleanliness).
Schools will engage students, teachers, and the community in a series of activities aimed at promoting cleanliness. These initiatives include cleanliness drives, essay and debate competitions, tree plantation, rallies, and street plays. Schools are also encouraged to organize ‘Swachhata Shapath’ (cleanliness pledge), set up selfie points to engage students and parents, and host workshops on hygiene and sanitation. Additionally, health check-up camps for sanitation workers and cultural events highlighting India’s sanitation journey will be part of the campaign. Schools are required to submit reports on their activities by October 4, 2024.
