In a significant move towards advancing professional development in education, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), in collaboration with UNESCO’s Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Education for Peace and Sustainable Development (MGIEP), has announced the launch of a pioneering online course titled ‘The Digital Educator: A Primer’.
Aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP-2020) of the Ministry of Education, Government of India, which emphasizes continuous professional development for teachers, the course aims to equip educators with cutting-edge digital pedagogies. This initiative is part of efforts to nurture teachers who can integrate technology effectively into classroom settings.
The course, hosted on MGIEP’s indigenous digital learning platform, Framer Space, spans over 15 hours and is structured into five quests: Understanding Digital Pedagogy, Designing Digital Learning Experiences, Navigating the Digital Space, Teaching-Learning in Hybrid Settings, and Assessments in the Digital World.
Participants will gain proficiency in utilizing digital tools such as Padlet, Mentimeter, Kahoot, Genilly, and Geogebra. They will also learn to accommodate learner variability and adapt lesson plans accordingly, navigate online resources securely, and foster responsible digital communication.
Upon completion, teachers will receive a certification jointly issued by CBSE and UNESCO MGIEP, fulfilling half-credit requirements for continuous professional development as mandated by the NEP. The course will be available in both English and Hindi. To facilitate the rollout, an orientation session is scheduled for July 24, 2024.
