The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has made it mandatory for all teachers and school leaders across affiliated institutions to undergo a minimum of 50 hours of annual professional training, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Professional Standards for Teachers (NPST).
As per two official circulars issued on April 1, 2025, the training will focus on three key areas:
- Core Values and Ethics – 12 hours
- Knowledge and Practice – 24 hours
- Professional Growth and Development – 14 hours
Teachers will be expected to complete half of these hours through CBSE or government training programs, while the remaining can be fulfilled via school-led or local collaborative initiatives.
To encourage a holistic professional development environment, CBSE has also approved the inclusion of activities such as board exam duties, academic research, participation in CBSE conferences, and digital content creation as part of the training hours.
For 2025, the Board has designated STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) as the central theme for its training programs. Schools have been urged to organize District Level Deliberations (DLDs) to foster innovation and discussion in STEM teaching, particularly through interdisciplinary and inquiry-based learning methods.
CBSE has called on school heads to lead this initiative and promote a culture of continuous learning and professional excellence within their institutions.
