The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has mandated the establishment of ‘Composite Skill Labs’ in all affiliated schools to enhance skill-based education, in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 and the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCF-SE). These initiatives emphasize the inclusion of skill subjects from class VI onwards, focusing on equipping students with practical skills alongside academic learning.
Recognizing the current lack of adequate facilities for hands-on training in many schools, the CBSE Governing Body has required all affiliated schools to establish a Composite Skill Lab. These labs, furnished with essential equipment and machinery, are intended to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world application.
Schools have two options for setting up these labs: one Composite Skill Lab of 600 sq. ft. for classes VI-XII or two separate labs of 400 sq. ft. each for classes VI–X and XI-XII. Schools seeking new affiliation must have these labs in place while existing schools are given a three-year window to comply. The introduction of these labs is expected to enhance employment prospects for students, offer diverse career pathways, and foster entrepreneurial skills, reinforcing CBSE’s commitment to holistic education.
