The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) is planning to work on a new internal assessment framework for science subjects for Classes 6 to 12. This initiative, to be developed in collaboration with the British Council, aims to address concerns over inconsistencies and potential inflation of marks in internal assessments. This was revealed in the minutes of the board’s 139th governing body meeting held on 24th June 2024.
In addition to the internal assessment framework, the CBSE is exploring the implementation of CCTV monitoring in classrooms during board exams. This move is intended to mitigate the risks of disturbances at exam centres. The proposal includes directing schools to install CCTV cameras in classrooms, with partial funding provided by the CBSE. The recordings would be submitted to a centralized data bank at the CBSE headquarters via a web link, ensuring real-time feedback and effective exam administration.
The new internal assessment framework will align with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education (NCFSE) and the government’s Holistic Progress Cards initiative. To ensure consistency, transparency, and fairness in assessments, CBSE officials will conduct capacity-building workshops for school leaders and coordinators.
The CCTV proposal is expected to be implemented from the 2025 exams, beginning with a pilot project in at least 30% of exam centres, with plans to eventually extend to all centres.
