The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced that it will no longer issue physical migration certificates for Classes 10 and 12.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced a major shift in how students receive their migration certificates. Starting this academic year, the board will no longer issue physical copies of migration certificates to Class 10 and 12 students.

Instead, CBSE will provide digitally signed migration certificates through DigiLocker, the government’s secure digital platform for storing and accessing official documents. These digital certificates hold the same legal validity as their physical counterparts and are recognized by all higher educational institutions (HEIs) across India.

This move aligns with the University Grants Commission (UGC) directive urging universities to accept documents available on the National Academic Depository (NAD) and DigiLocker as valid academic records.

MIGRATION CERTIFICATE NOW FREE OF COST

In a student-friendly update, CBSE has also announced that the migration certificate will now be available free of charge. Once the board declares results, the digital certificates will be uploaded directly to each student’s DigiLocker account.

However, if a student still requires a printed version during the transition phase, they can apply for one through the Duplicate Academic Document System (DADS) portal at cbseit.in
. The requested document will then be verified, processed, and dispatched to the student’s address.

STEPS TO DOWNLOAD CBSE MIGRATION CERTIFICATE 2025 VIA DIGILOCKER

  • Visit the DigiLocker website or open the mobile app.
  • Log in using your registered credentials.
  • Set up your security PIN if you haven’t already.

  • Go to the “Issued Documents” section.
  • Click on CBSE Documents and select Migration Certificate.
  • Download and save your certificate for future use.

Note: CBSE has introduced a six-digit access code for activating DigiLocker accounts. Schools are responsible for distributing these codes to students. Those who haven’t received theirs should contact their school administration.

WHAT IS MIGRATION CERTIFICATE?

A migration certificate is an official document issued by an educational board that enables a student to transfer from one school or board to another. It confirms that the student has successfully completed their studies under the issuing board and is eligible to continue education elsewhere.

This shift to a digital format marks another step forward in CBSE’s ongoing digital transformation, ensuring convenience, accessibility, and security for millions of students across the country.
