CBSE to Implement PMKVY 4.0 Under Skill Hub Initiative

by admin

The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 of India has emphasized the need for promoting skill development in schools to ensure that students are prepared for the challenges of the 21st century knowledge economy. The policy recognizes the importance of skilling in schools and aims to incorporate vocational (skill) education and training programs into the school curriculum. The promotion of skilling in schools is expected to provide students with the necessary skills and knowledge to succeed in their chosen careers and contribute to the country’s economic growth.

The Government of India has announced the launching of PMKVY 4.0 in the Union Budget 2023. It aims to leverage the learnings from the implementation of “SHI” under PMKVY 3.0. More information on PMKVY schemes can be assessed at www.pmkvyofficial.org with guidelines of previous versions of PMKVY. Download this document and refer to Annexure B for knowing the SOP for on-boarding of Educational Institutions for training under PMKVY 4.0 as a Skill Hub.

The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has been implementing PMKVY since 2015 to create an industry ready workforce and enhance the employability skills. Under the scheme the targeted groups are offered demand driven and industry-linked skilling courses that will enable them to choose a career path aligned with their abilities and aspirations. It has been envisaged to leverage the existing infrastructure of schools after the school hours or on nonworking days as “Skill Hub” for imparting Skill Education and Training. In the year 2021-22, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has introduced and implemented “Skill Hub” under PMKVY 3.0 in selected schools on the pilot basis.

National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) is the implementing arm of the Ministry of Education and shall provide all required handholding support and technical assistance in implementation of PMKVY 4.0 in Skill Hubs in schools. The entire training life cycle from enrolment to certification and tracking including registration of candidates, digital courses content and e-courses will be done through Skill India Portal/Digital for which necessary orientation and handholding support will be provided by NSDC (www.skillindia.gov.in). The training centre established in schools would be branded as per PMKVY common branding guidelines and named as Skill India Centers. The training life cycle data will be captured on Skill India Digital.

CBSE encourages all its affiliated schools (Private or Government), especially those which are offering Skill subjects in their schools to start Skill Hub in their premises as per given guidelines and norms.
