For Shlokaa Upadhyaya, a Humanities student at Delhi Public School, R.N. Extension, Ghaziabad, academic success wasn’t about marathon study sessions—it was about staying focused and consistent. Scoring a stunning 499 out of 500 in the CBSE Class 12 board exams, she emerged as one of this year’s national toppers with a 99.8% aggregate.

Unlike the common perception that toppers spend endless hours studying, Shlokaa followed a steady routine—just 2–3 hours of daily revision, slightly extended on weekends. By November, she had completed the full syllabus and spent the months leading up to the exams on intensive revision.

“We didn’t expect marks this high,” she said modestly. “But my parents, teachers, and I were confident I’d do well since I had always performed consistently in school.”

More Than Just a Topper

Outside academics, Shlokaa is a multi-talented student with a passion for reading, swimming, and music. A gifted singer, she has represented her school at several vocal competitions and recently started training in classical vocals. Now, she’s setting her sights on learning an instrument—either the guitar or keyboard—after her CUET UG exams.

“Once you start learning something, it just motivates you to keep going,” she said. “Music has always been a part of me.”

Aspirations Beyond School

With a keen interest in Geography and History, Shlokaa plans to pursue an honours degree in either subject, aiming for admission to Miranda House, Delhi University. Her ultimate goal is to join the Indian Administrative Service (IAS).

“Becoming an IAS officer has been a long-standing dream. My parents were the first to encourage me to explore the civil services,” she shared.

Advice to Future Students

To students preparing for board exams, Shlokaa offers practical advice:

“Don’t get caught up in titles like ‘topper.’ Just stay focused on learning. It’s not about how long you study but how well you study. Even if it’s just two hours a day, make sure you retain what you’ve learned.”

This year, over 42 lakh students appeared for the CBSE board exams, which were held from February 15 to April 4, 2025. Class 10 exams concluded on March 18, while Class 12 exams ended on April 4.
