Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced plans to introduce awards for teachers and school heads to pay tribute to their exceptional contributions to education. This initiative aims to inspire more people to pursue teaching careers, promote effective teaching and learning methods, and elevate the status of educators within the community.
In a statement, Chief Minister Sukhu mentioned that 24 teachers will receive awards in two categories: general areas and tribal/hard-to-reach areas. Of these, 15 awards will be for teachers in general areas, while nine will be for those serving in tribal and hard-to-reach regions. He also mentioned that the government plans to present six special awards to teachers who have demonstrated exceptional innovation, implemented key state programs, and led special initiatives. He added that these awards may vary from year to year.
According to the Chief Minister, teachers eligible for these special awards will include those serving in District Institutes of Education and Training, the State Council of Educational Research and Training, Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, and Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan.
Recipients will be selected based on recommendations from a state-level committee established under the State Award Scheme.
Sukhu reaffirmed the Congress government’s commitment to providing quality education to students locally and supporting international exposure visits for teachers to adopt exemplary teaching methods within the state.
