Hyderabad: The Cambridge and the IBDP students of CHIREC International School had a week long Theatre Ensemble titled ‘In the Limelight,’ from December 12th to December 17th. The 6-day event was an exciting and spectacular theatre extravaganza that emphasised on a holistic approach by the school to nurture the innate potential of the students .The highlight of the entire production were the props and sets, along with the LED backdrop images, which were designed and curated by students from Stages 7 to IB 11 . It was a treat to watch parents applaud their children who were a picture of confidence on stage.

The week-long celebration commenced with the scintillating performances by Stage 6 students, who presented a tale of greed and human ingenuity from the Arabian Nights: Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves. Student actors and dancers presented the enticing musical, and the school resounded with cheers and applause from the audience. This was followed by ‘ The Wizard of Oz’, the popular musical fantasy performed by students of Stage 7, that enthralled the audience to see the students dressed as witches, wizards and flying monkeys. The Stage 8 students stunned the audience with their impressive dialogues and acting skills as they brought to life George Bernard Shaw’s enduring story of complex human relationships called ‘Pygmalion’. Parents cheered and tapped their feet to the songs like ‘Lots of chocolates for me to eat’ and swayed to the emotional confrontation between Prof. Higgins and Ela Dolittle.

With Christmas around the corner, it was the perfect time to celebrate the holiday season by enjoying a theatrical adaptation of Charles Dickens ‘A Christmas Carol’on the theme -greed, generosity, and forgiveness. While the students’ choir sang carols, it was a visual treat for everyone as they cheered and celebrated student performances on stage. The theatre festival culminated in the grand finale on the 17th of December with the IBDP students performing Brendon Thomas’s romantic comedy,’ Charley’s Aunt’. Starting from selecting the play, preparing the props, designing the sets, costumes to direction, lights and music- every aspect of the production was student effort. Impressed by the student performances, Ms. Sanchita Raha, Principal, International Section, shares “Theatre is an activity where all students learn to be innovative, responsible, reflective, confident, engaged and so much more. This is the best way in which these skills and attributes are honed and brought to the fore. Students pursue theatre with a passion and this is evident in the production. It has been an absolute delight to watch the students perform with such grace and confidence.”
