On Tuesday, 23rd July, the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination (CISCE) convened a meeting at The Heritage School in Kolkata with heads of institutions from its affiliated schools in West Bengal and North-East India. The meeting focused on an elaborate plan to align the board’s curriculum with the National Education Policy 2020 and explored various methods to integrate NEP 2020 into the curriculum.
The meeting featured Dr. G Immanuel, Chairman of CISCE, as the Chief Guest and Dr. Joseph Emmanuel, Chief Executive and Secretary of CISCE, as the Guest of Honour. The event was attended by over 200 principals from various affiliated schools across the region.
In his address, Dr. Joseph Emmanuel emphasized the shift from rote learning to competency-focused and skill-based learning as crucial for implementing NEP 2020 in the CISCE curriculum. He highlighted the need for a teaching approach that promotes experiential learning over content-heavy teaching, urging teachers to connect personally with students to address developmental needs. Dr. Emmanuel discussed efforts to collaborate with global universities to allow CISCE students to skip 1-2 semesters in undergraduate programs, reflecting the advanced nature of their education. He also stressed the importance of retaining students after the Class 10 ICSE exams, highlighting that the CISCE syllabus aligns with competitive exams like JEE Main and NEET UG, and encouraged schools to support students in these areas.
