Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra while speaking at the 26th annual convocation of National Law School of India University at the Dr Babu Rajendra Prasad International Convention Centre at the University of Agriculture University, advised the graduating law students to use their knowledge and skills to help the poor and the needy.
Gold medals issued to 182 students of LLB and other courses at the convocation. Seventeen students bagged 113 gold medals. Bhuvanyaa Vijay from Rajasthan and Shraddha Gome from Madhya Pradesh have bagged 13 gold medals each in BA, LLB (Honours) course.
The CJI said it was important for the poor to get justice and that lawyers should work for this.
He said, rather than engaging in aggressive advocacy, a graduating student should concentrate on facts, law and reasoning while maintaining proper ethics.
Retired Chief Justice of India M N Venkatachaliah said that it was not a big deal for graduating students to become a bar member, but apart from arguing the cases in the court, they have to work towards the betterment of judiciary system.
The convocation was also attended by Supreme Court judges, justice Mohan Shanthan Gowder, Justice Abdul Nazeer, High Court Chief Justice Dinesh Maheshwari, ministers Krishna Byre Gowda, G T Devegowda and vice-chancellor Prof R Venkata Rao.
Meanwhile, Justice Misra said that he was aware of the absence of a convention hall on the NLSIU campus and added that he would speak to the government regarding this.
