Coping with the drug-menace through power plants in Himachal

Himachal Pradesh government will combat drug menace by roping in corporate and Hydel power project promoters. Two main Hydel power projects Sutlej Jal Vidyut Nigam Limited (SJVNL) and National Hydro Power Corporation (NHPC) will be incorporated in the process of building rehabilitation centres for drug addicts.

A senior official mentioned that, “The power companies are being encouraged to set up centres under corporate social responsibility”.

The government has decided to build 4 de-addiction centres as of now. Kullu superintendent of police, Shalini Agnihotri remarked that “More cases of synthetic smuggling are coming to light in Kullu district. Synthetic drugs have caught up with people in the region”. to nab drug peddlers a special drive has been initiated by Himachal Pradesh government.

A new lifestyle chemical drug, ‘Chitta’ is on the rise and gaining popularity with the disoriented youth that has become an alarming condition for the past 10 months.
