CSIR kicks -off One Week One Lab programme in Hyderabad

On Tuesday, the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) kicked off the latest chapter of its “One Week One Lab programme” at Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), in Hyderabad. This chapter of the “One Week One Lab programme” was conducted as a part of the series of such programmes being conducted by CSIR across India. The event recorded presence of school and college students, educators, industrialists, farmers, wildlife officials and policymakers. The day-one of the event showcased how science creates better things for human living and it witnessed encouraging participation of school and college students.

Visiting students were able to know about forthcoming developments in the field of science. They were able to understand how science can help the market through capture need-based production. CCMB displayed its development and collaboration works. Visitors actively interacted with CCMB scientists through which the scientists learned what people want. The event displayed many innovations which is of interest to students pursuing life sciences education. The stall on how science and research helped improve rice cultivation by making crops disease-free and high-yielding was popular among the visitors.

The Hyderabad chapter of the “One Week One Lab programme” was inaugurated by DR N Kalaiselvi, Director General, CSIR and Secretary, DSIR who is also the Chief Guest at the event. Dr Kalaiselvi spoke sustainability an how it is the call of nation today. She underlined the importance of collaboration among labs, scientists, industrialists and entrepreneurs. The audience was also addressed by Dr Madhusudhana Rao, CEO of Atal Incubation Centre-CCMB. He emphasised the need for closing the gap between academia and entrepreneurship. The event also had a brainstorming session for scientists and policymakers on the topic “Wastewater- based Surveillance: The Way Ahead”.
