The National Medical Commission (NMC) has made the draft regulation for the National Exit Exam (NExT). This exam is envisioned to bring uniformity in the evaluation procedure to check the minimum common standard of education and training among medical graduates in India. The exam will take place in two parts. The first will be a theoretical exam covering six subjects, whereas, the second will be a practical/clinical and viva voce exam covering seven subjects.
The theoretical exam will be conducted in online mode. It will have one or more than one type of MCQs. As the date of the exam is yet to be declared, students seem quite confused. They are unsure whether they will have to sit for the exam or not. Some are appreciative of the NExT exam, while some show skepticism. What is however common, is people’s confusion as to how the exams will be held. Many people have openly praised the initiative. The Next exam will dismiss the practice of putting more weightage to one subject and will prioritize all subjects.
