The Kerala State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) announced on Tuesday that the topics that have been deleted from the NCERT syllabus will remain unaffected in Kerala school curricula. A considerable number of topics had been deleted from the NCERT textbooks of classes XI and XII in lieu of its “syllabus rationalization” process, which will be taught to Kerala students.
SCERT sources have confirmed that the curriculum committee has decided that the deleted chapters, which mainly pertain to History, will be taught in Kerala. The SCERT has also decided that supplementary textbooks should also be printed in Kerala.
The Education Minister will take the final decision in this regard, as decided by the SCERT.
Sources have also said that the government has taken a firm stand against the deletion of several topics in the textbooks, and the state education department would act in accordance with the curriculum committee’s in-principle decision that the deleted portions be taught in Kerala schools by introducing supplementary textbooks for classes XI and XII.
SCERT sources shared that even though the NCERT has revised the syllabi of classes VI through XII, the Kerala state only depends on NCERT curricula for classes XI and XII, which is why the syllabi of the other classes of State Board students will remain unaffected.
