Despite the summer break, Delhi government schools are actively supporting students through a special counselling programme running from May 14 to May 31. The initiative, aimed at Class 10 and 12 students, focuses on mental health, exam stress, bullying, academic pressure, and career guidance.
Organised by the Educational and Vocational Guidance Counsellors (EVGCs), the summer counselling sessions provide students with a safe space to express emotional concerns and seek professional support—even while schools remain closed.
Focus Areas
- Mental well-being and emotional support
- Managing exam and academic stress
- Coping with bullying and peer pressure
- Career counselling and subject guidance
- Substance use awareness
These sessions are especially targeted at students in Classes 10 and 12, who often carry the weight of academic expectations even during holidays.
Official Guidelines and Reporting
According to a circular issued by the Delhi Education Department, the programme is part of its broader mission to provide year-round psychological and academic support.
Counsellors—both permanent and guest—have been instructed to maintain detailed records for every session, including:
- Student ID and class
- Nature of the issue discussed
- Academic or career advice provided
- Whether parental involvement was included
School principals are tasked with submitting compiled data to their respective District Counsellor-in-Charges (CICs), who will forward it to the EVGC Branch (EVGB).
Compensation and Leave
Regular counsellors who work during the summer period will be eligible for earned leave in accordance with Central Civil Services rules, while guest counsellors will be paid as per standard remuneration norms.
Through this initiative, the Delhi government aims to ensure that students receive continuous emotional and academic support—even beyond the classroom.
