The Delhi government has launched a five-day training program for school teachers to identify gifted students and create a curriculum to nurture their potential.
The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT) started “Project Abhishikt” under which 104 teachers are trained at a government school in Kalkaji, starting from Tuesday, according to officials.
The project’s key areas focuses on identifying gifted learners, selecting educators capable of delivering a specialised curriculum, developing a curriculum tailored to the unique needs of gifted students, and ensuring its effective implementation.
The SCERT Joint Director Nahar Singh stated that “The primary goal of the project is to bridge the gap between the students’ current abilities and their immense potential. This will be achieved by offering specialised support and a carefully designed curriculum to ensure their success.”
The goal of the project is to unlock the untapped potential of Class 6 and Class 9 students who stand out from their peers, according to another official.
Typically, teachers concentrate on students who struggle academically, which can result in the abilities of gifted students being overlooked, the officials noted.
The officials also added that, the Directorate of Education and SCERT initiated the project to identify gifted students from 15 government schools.
The first day of the training program centred on the theme “Introduction and Understanding Giftedness.” On Wednesday, teachers participated in a session that focused into the project’s inception.
