Col (Dr) Rajesh Jasial is a graduate of National Defence Academy, Khadakvasla where he passed out with prestigious President’s Bronze Medal. He served in the Indian Army at varied command and staff appointments. He served with Indian Peace Keeping Force in Srilanka and later on deputation with the UN Peace Keeping Mission in Mozambique. He took voluntary retirement from Army after 23 years of service.
In his second innings as educationist, he has set up a University, a law college and many IB and CBSE Schools. He has been on the board of IFIM Business School (now called Jagdish Sheth School of Management) and IFIM Colleges in Bengaluru. Currently he is Director of a group of schools in Chandigarh and Ludhiana.
He holds Post Graduate degrees in Education and Defence Studies and a PhD in Educational Leadership from Delaware, US.
He has used his experience in the Indian Army very effectively to grow a culture of harmony, camaraderie, discipline, punctuality and eye to detail.
Discipline does not need to be a physical manifestation only. It is the discipline of mind that is more important. He has motivated students to finish their assignments in time with minimum mistakes. He terms that as Discipline of Mind. He has encouraged schools to be full of laughter and vibrancy when students shift from one classroom to the other and not with fingers on their lips and hands on the back. His experiments have brought a smile on every child’s face and also found popularity with the parents.
He has encouraged creativity amongst students which can only be kindled in their minds by providing an atmosphere of relaxed minds and not stifled with too many rules and regulations. He has also tried to provide a similar atmosphere to teachers where they take extra efforts to engage in effective teaching learning experiences. He has welcomed the New Education Policy and NCF. On his own he has introduced Design Thinking at younger age groups and introduced large number of topics which are not listed in regular curriculum. He has also introduced Minimum Physical Education Standards (MSEP) to ensure that all students learn about physical fitness and wellness. As per him, the schools cannot provide sports facilities to all their students in limited spaces and many students miss out their chance to play. But, MSEP ensures no child is left behind.
His experiments with Experiential Learning, Differentiated Learning and Gamification of Lessons are in progress.
According to him, the management and school employees especially the non-teaching staff must follow a strict regime of eye to details so that the students and teachers are provided all facilities for a great learning experience
