Amid a notable surge in Covid-19 cases across the country, parents are reluctant to send their children to school. Many of them are attempting to seek guidance from both educational institutions and the government. According to Pankaj Gupta, a member of the Parents Association of northwest Delhi, the situation is alarming for parents, though not critical. He emphasized that schools should proactively implement precautionary measures, ensuring social distancing and mask compliance. According to Mr. Gupta, relying on individual efforts to enforce masks on children would likely prove ineffective, with most students not adhering to the practice. According to him, parents are still processing the scenario but also want schools to respond proactively. According to Priya Rana, a member of the Parents Association of Ghaziabad, the government should anticipate and act proactively. According to her, while numerous students are familiar with the Covid protocols, those in primary and secondary levels lack substantial experience in handling such situations.

On December 20, 2023, the country reported 614 new Covid-19 cases, marking the highest daily count since May 21. During this period, Kerala recorded atleast three Covid-related fatalities.
