PM SHRI Scheme was announced by the Prime Minister in the previous year

9000 schools were shortlisted by the Ministry of Education from across India for Pradhan Mantri Schools for Rising India scheme (PM SHRI). More than 2.5 lakhs schools were selected for the process, including Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas, which were eligible for the tag.

The schools were assessed on the basis of 6 parameters which ensured their eligibility for the PM SHRI tag. The parameters include – curriculum, pedagogy, and assessment; access and infrastructure; human resources and leadership; inclusive practices and gender equality; management, monitoring, and governance and beneficiary satisfaction. These broad 6 parameters are taken into consideration for tagging a school under the PM SHRI scheme.

The announcement of the names of schools which are eligible for the tag will be made soon.

The PM SHRI school scheme is a new centrally sponsored scheme. It aims to develop more than 14500 schools across the country. The scheme’s main plan is to reach this aim by strengthening the existing schools which are selected on evaluation of certain parameters. It includes the schools that are managed by all forms of governments.

The PM SHRI schools will aim in providing quality teaching which helps in the cognitive development of the students. It will also lend its hands in creating and nurturing holistic and well rounded individuals facilitating them with 21st century learning skills.

Seven states, however, are yet to sign the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the education ministry, regarding the up-gradation of schools in their states under the PM SHRI scheme. The scheme was announced by the Prime Minister on September 5, the previous year. The seven states that have not signed the MoU yet include Kerala, Delhi, West Bengal, Bihar, Odisha, Tamil Nadu, and Jharkand. The center has urged these states and other Union Territories to come forward and be a part of the scheme which ensures quality education for all.

The implementation of this scheme will enable the depiction of all components of NEP to ensure the top notch education for all. It will also enable the PM SHRI schools as representative schools of quality education in the country.
