On July 9th, the Ministry of Education reviewed the NCERT guidelines for implementing bagless days in schools, with plans to refine them further to enhance joyful and experiential learning for students, officials said. The PSS Central Institute of Vocational Education (PSSCIVE), part of NCERT, developed comprehensive guidelines for this initiative to foster a joyful, experiential, and stress-free learning environment.
According to an official of the Ministry of Education, the meeting included discussions on various suggestions such as educating students about the local ecology, teaching water purity testing, identifying local flora and fauna, and visiting local monuments. Following this review, PSSCIVE will refine and finalise its guidelines.
The National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 advises that students in Classes 6-8 engage in a 10-day bagless period. During this time, students will intern with local skill experts and participate in activities outside traditional school settings. This initiative aims to foster students’ appreciation for the broader ecosystem surrounding their school.
